Entry Class (Team Vortex)
Regionals: London North 2020
Result: π₯Place and Future Stars π
Entry Class
We entered in 2020 as Team Vortex. The team started of as 3 members but picked up a further 3 over the year. The team finished at an impressive 2nd place and a trophy due to an excellent car (beating many in development class) and an impressive verbal presentation. Areas of improvement were mainly to do with the portfolios and pit display which scored low compared to some of the other teams. Nonetheless, the outcome was extremely pleasing - a 2nd place finish and the future stars award (given to the team with the most potential in the future).
Dev Class (Team Cyclone)
Regionals: London North 2021
Result: 4th Place and Fastest Car ποΈ
Development Class
Our development class journey was significantly more rocky with the pandemic often becoming a problem. We couldn't test physically as easily nor communicate with each other as easily. This year with the virtual challenges we faced we spent a lot of the year of CAD and CFD rather than sketching and testing our car physically. Our final result saw us have the fastest car (albeit some problems with an overhang on our backwing - likely a manufacturing error) and much better quality content from the enterprise team. Out final portfolios scored extremely well, as did our verbal presentation - what let us down were our engineering drawings (because of the overhang) and our Pit Display (which was a CAD model due to the pandemic). We ended on a 4th place finish, leaving us just shy of Nationals but we were proud of the many improvements made.

The competition was live-stream because of COVID-19 restrictions. We posted the car and uploaded PDF version of our Design and Engineering Portfolios, Pit Display Portfolio, Renders and Engineering Drawings. We were also told to edit and produce our Verbal Presentation where we experimented with various different hardware and software technologies to improve the quality of our work.
